The "Campus Folk Song" (校園民歌) movement—arguably the most influential cultural and musical renaissance in the history of Mandarin pop music—is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark this monumental milestone, the "Taiwan Campus Folk Song 50th Anniversary: Across the Ocean to Reunite" 2026 U.S. Tour will officially launch in April 2026. Organized by the Chinese Ticket Box (美國華人票房文化傳播公司) and co-produced with Joy Music (Taiwan), this unprecedented tour will sweep across five major U.S. cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Houston, and New York.
Gathering 12 Hall-of-Fame legendary singers and pioneering singer-songwriters, this tour promises to deliver the most authentic and timeless classics, taking the North American Chinese diaspora on a nostalgic journey back to the golden era of acoustic guitars and grassy campus sing-alongs.
The Pioneers of an Era: A Historic Reunion of Hu De-Fu, Hou De-Jian, Yeh Chia-Hsiu, and Wu Chu-Chu
The lineup for this U.S. tour reads like a living encyclopedia of Taiwan’s popular music history. The organizers have secured two monumental "special guests" whose contributions shaped the very foundation of the folk movement. Hu De-Fu (胡德夫), universally revered as the "Father of Taiwan Folk Music," will bring his profound, resonant voice—often likened to the Pacific monsoon—to deliver the deepest cultural call of the homeland. Joining him is the legendary singer-songwriter Hou De-Jian (侯德健), whose masterpieces have echoed across the global Chinese community for decades. His rare overseas appearance is undeniably the most highly anticipated cultural highlight of this tour.
Adding to this historic gathering is Yeh Chia-Hsiu (葉佳修), the undisputed "Father of Country Pop Folk." He will recreate the rustic charm of the era with timeless hits like "Country Road" (鄉間的小路) and "Grandma's Penghu Bay" (外婆的澎湖灣). Furthermore, Wu Chu-Chu (吳楚楚), a pivotal figure in Taiwan’s record industry and founder of UFO Records, will reunite with Zhang Ming-Zhi (張明智). Together, they will revive their classic acoustic duo, showcasing the raw, unadorned vocal harmonies that defined the early days of campus folk.
The Timeless Female Voices: Pan Yue-Yun, Zheng Yi, and Jin Zhi-Juan
The folk era nurtured an array of distinct, unparalleled female voices that became the soundtrack to millions of adolescences. Zheng Yi (鄭怡), whose soaring and crystal-clear vocals shocked the music scene with the masterpiece "Moon Lute" (月琴), remains unmatched to this day. She will once again pierce the souls of the audience with the majestic and melancholic tones of the folk era. Pan Yue-Yun (潘越雲), known for her bohemian charm and deeply soulful voice, will serenade the audience with classics from "Blue Sky Every Day" (天天天藍) to "Wild Lilies Have a Spring Too" (野百合也有春天), recounting the romance and sentimentalities of our shared youth.
Moreover, the tour's theme, "Across the Ocean to Reunite," perfectly aligns with the signature masterpiece of Jin Zhi-Juan (娃娃 - Wawa). When the melody of "Across the Ocean to See You" (飄洋過海來看你) rings out in North American theaters, it will transcend its origins as a love song, transforming into a poignant reflection of the millions of overseas Chinese who have crossed half the globe and weathered decades of life's trials.

Romantic Poets and Campus Talents: Chou Chih-Ping, Cyndi Chaw, Tai Zhao-Mei, and Tu Pei-Cen
Bridging the transition from campus folk to the golden age of mainstream Mandarin pop, these musicians played indispensable roles. Chou Chih-Ping (周治平), hailed as the "Romantic Poet of Mandarin Pop," seamlessly blended the literary depth of folk with mainstream appeal through hits like "A Tale of Romance" (那一場風花雪月的事). The eternally sweet and warm voice of Cyndi Chaw (趙詠華) will perform "The Most Romantic Thing" (最浪漫的事), awakening the softest memories in the hearts of fans.
Tai Zhao-Mei (邰肇玫), a representative of the first generation of campus folk talents, will perform "If" (如果), a song that remains a mandatory anthem for guitar clubs today. Meanwhile, Tu Pei-Cen (涂佩岑), representing the fresh and vibrant voices of the later "University City" era, will bring back the unfiltered sunshine and vitality of "Flying Youth" (飛揚的青春).
The gathering of these 12 legendary artists is more than just a three-hour auditory feast; it is a three-dimensional yearbook of our youth. Every chord struck and every melody sung will be a precise emotional strike, leading the entire audience on a time-traveling journey across half a century.
