Mission: Chinatown History & Culture Association and Chinese Historical Society of America are excited to present a “Cultural Festival in Chinatown” on May 25th 2024 . The purpose of this family festival is to organize a community event that promotes Chinatown’s small businesses, deep history, and live culture by attracting new visitors to our festive community; welcome old visitors who have not been to Chinatown for a long time; and unify the community by offering community involvement. Specifically, this event is a cultural learning experience where people can learn about the cultural significance such as lion dance competition/performances, Chinese Martial Arts performances, Chinese musical, Chinese herbal and medical healing consultation, Chinese paintings, Tao culture, and children learning and demonstration area. This family cultural festival will provide a learning experience to Chinatown visitors and locals to appreciate the deep history and culture of San Francisco’s Chinatown since 1848. Our Goal is to attract more people by teaching the community and its visitors about the cultural significance, to add 30% of revenue to the businesses by providing visitors and returning shoppers a festive environment to enjoy, and to learn, to engage, and to discover the deep history that San Francisco’s Chinatown has to offer. The objective is to bring a festive environment to San Francisco’s Chinatown, especially as the community and its businesses recover from the detrimental effects of the COVID 19 pandemic. Many businesses on Grant Avenue (the main street for Chinatown’s retail businesses) have been closed down since the beginning of the pandemic. Not only will these festivities bring visitors back to the community and its businesses, it will also be a cultural learning experience for all.
